William Stephen (Steve) Boom
May 23, 1950 — May 19, 2017
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — Steve Boom, a former landscaper on Bainbridge Island, passed away on May 19, 2017, four days short of his 67th birthday.
Stories will be told …
As a young lad, Steve had a passion for ice hockey. His parents left Beaux Arts Village — his father worked for Boeing — and Steve surrendered skating on ice to skiing the mountains of Tehran, Iran. Steve’s stories started there.
He was a mischievous teenager and had a brief stay in a Tehran jail for flirting with a local girl.
He was a born athlete; he left the Tehran American School for Villa St. Jean International School in Fribourg, Switzerland and the majestic mountains of Zermatt, and was labeled an “extraordinary American skier.”
He next attended Singapore American School and hitchhiked all over Southeast Asia with his forever bud, Duncan Mcphee, shortly before the Vietnam War started. Later in life, Steve sailed a yacht, the Atlanta, from Seattle to Australia for the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
Angels were in the doorway as Steve started his new journey. He is survived by his wife, Marge; daughter, Shari (Jeremiah) Ballou and Anna (John) Carter; sons, Chris Boom and Mike Boom; grandchildren, Isaiah, Tyler, Julia, John, Hunter, Ari, and Landon; sisters, Karen (John) Uyeno and Ann (Dr. Dan) Davis; and his bud, Duncan Mcphee.
A public gathering is pending.
“May the soil be sweet, the wake of the ocean strong.” Love, Marge
