POULSBO — Maestro Mario Torres will conduct the Poulsbo Community Orchestra in its annual Fishline Holiday Concert, 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at North Kitsap Community Auditorium.
There is no charge for admission, courtesy of Poulsbo Lions and Rotary clubs, and numerous sponsors and donors from the community. However, attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food donations for North Kitsap Fishline. Additionally, Fishline and the orchestra will share cash donations received at the door.
Special holiday music by Tchaikovsky, Bach, Handel, and Leroy Anderson will be performed. For the concert’s first half, the orchestra will play the “Nutcracker Suite.” Following intermission, Bruce Mansfield will guest conduct “Sleigh Ride.” After serving three years as volunteer conductor, this will be Maestro Mansfield’s last appearance with the orchestra. He and his family are relocating to Arizona where he will begin his next Navy assignment working on a Ph.D. in music.
Included in the program are “And the Glory” from Handel’s Messiah, and “A Bach Christmas.” Once again, Santa and his helpers will be available for photographs before and after the concert, and during intermission.
Approximately 60 volunteer musicians rehearse weekly, under the direction of Maestro Torres, at North Point Church in Poulsbo. Three concerts are performed each concert season. Concerts in 2018 are planned for March 18 and June 3. For this holiday concert, musicians travel from as far as Sequim, Port Townsend, Port Orchard, and Seattle to perform for the Poulsbo and North Kitsap communities.
