SILVERDALE — Here’s what to expect through Jan. 3 on the Silverdale Way Road Improvement Project.

Scheduled work: Crews will focus on completing the water main in Byron Street, completing roadway patching and organizing the work site for the holiday break (Dec. 23 to Jan. 1). After the holidays, the contractor will resume work on the Joint Utility Trench and begin the wall construction.

Installation of the storm sewer main on the west side of Silverdale Way is delayed until after Jan. 1.

In observance of the holidays, the contractor will close the project site from Dec. 23 through Jan. 1. Work will resume on Jan. 2.

During the holiday closure, Wave Cable may have crews onsite, however, all travel lanes will be open.

Traffic impacts: Expect closures on Byron Street for the water main work. A detour route will be signed on Carlton Street. The streets will reopen during the evening and non-work hours.

Expect alternating lane closures on Silverdale Way for roadway patching.

After Jan. 1, the southbound lanes and the center turn lane on Silverdale Way (from Anderson Hill Road to Lowell Street) will close for installation of remaining storm sewer system. One northbound lane and one southbound lane will be maintained through the work area at all times.

About the project: The $11.1 million project is significant. When completed, Silverdale Way will have five lanes, with 5-foot bike lanes, 6-foot planter areas, and 8-foot sidewalks. There will be new street lighting and a new traffic signal at Byron Street and Silverdale Way. The stormwater system will be upgraded to provide stormwater treatment for a 43-acre drainage basin. The work will continue until next fall.

The county Public Works Department and the Silverdale Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee are working to spread the word about alternate routes. Old Town is home to Silverdale Waterfront Park and eclectic mix of businesses — among them a farm store, salons, restaurants, an arts school, a music academy, and various professional services. Clear Creek Trail winds along the waterfront. The park has a pier, boat and kayak launches, and a children’s playground.
