PORT ORCHARD — High energy and interactive comedian Rodney Sherwood is headlining Soroptimist International of Port Orchard’s Comedy Night at 7 p.m., Feb. 2, at the Clubhouse at McCormick Woods.
The event is one of the organization’s primary fundraisers, with the goal of raising funds for community service projects, including the Soroptimist signature project called the “Live Your Dream” award.
The cash award is given to women who are heads of households, are enrolled in college or technical programs, and who are in need of financial assistance. A recent recipient is scheduled to attend the event, and a video will be shown to explain the program.
SIPO members have worked closely with Larry Stokes, Port of Bremerton commissioner, on past projects, said Bobbie Weatherill, the organization’s spokeswoman. She said Stokes will demonstrate his renowned skills as an auctioneer during a brief live auction and “raise the paddle” segment. The event also will include a 50/50 raffle and a dessert auction.
Tickets are $20 each in advance, $25 at the door. They can be purchased from any Soroptimist member, online at brownpapertickets.com, or by calling 206-349-6986 or 903-952-9718. Tables of eight or 10 may be purchased for $160-$200. Dinner may be ordered off the menu prior to the event. Guests having dinner will receive a 5-percent discount off their order.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Soroptimist is an international business and professional women’s volunteer service organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in their communities and around the world, Weatherill said.
