Bremerton Mayor Patty Lent announced Friday morning that former King County Sheriff Steven Strachan has accepted a job offer to become the city’s next chief of police.
Lent said that Strachan was the unanimous choice among two union members, two police captains, three city council members and all department heads following interviews with Strachan and four other police chief finalists on Tuesday .
Lent said she will brief the city council about her choice at the start of a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4. The council will vote on Strachan during their televised meeting two days later.
Strachan took over as King County Sheriff when Sue Rahr stepped down in April 2012. He lost his bid for election to sitting sheriff John Urquhart in November.
