PORT ORCHARD — With the first phase of construction work coming to a close on the Tremont Street widening project, motorists on the busy arterial leading to and from SR 16 will soon face detours skirting the extensive roadwork.

The city’s Public Works Department alerted commuters about the imminent start of road detours, perhaps as early as the middle of this month. No date was announced by the city in a release distributed Feb. 1.

Phase 2 work will encompass closures on Tremont from South Kitsap Boulevard through Roland Avenue, and on Pottery Avenue from Tremont Street to the intersection of Alder Lane and Tremont Place. Two-way detours will be in place, according to the city, and they’ll be monitored to maintain traffic flow. While thru-traffic will no longer be possible, access to businesses and residential areas impacted by the closures will be possible.

The city cautions motorists to “be mindful of detours through residential areas and adhere to the speed limits.”
