PARKLAND — The North Kitsap girls finished third in the 2A girls basketball district tournament after taking care of business against Fife, 49-41, Feb. 17.
Noelani Barreith had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Raelee Moore chipped in 12 and Grace Johnson added eight. Lauren Weins led the Vikings with eight rebounds and dished out six assists.
North Kitsap held off a furious fourth quarter charge by the Trojans, but head coach Penny Gienger was able to settle down her team and they sealed the victory.
“We’re excited about getting to go to state,” Gienger said. “It feels good to go and to be in that position.”
Renton 33, Kingston 28
The season came to an end for the Buccaneers in a loss to Renton in the fifth-place game at the girls 2A West Central District III tournament.The game was close throughout; the Indians led by just two at halftime.
Kingston’s final record stands at 16-9.
Boys 2A WCD fifth-place game: Clover Park 63, Olympic 49
The Warriors jumped out to a 14-2 lead and the Trojans never recovered, ending their season with a loss in the fifth place game of the 2A West Central District 3 tournament.
Jaiden Mosley led Olympic with 17 points, but the offense as a whole struggled early on while Clover Park battered and bruised its way to the basket. Evan Turnquist added nine and Tanner Landis chipped in six.
The Warriors did not quite play well enough to ever truly put away the Trojans in the second half, but Olympic never found its groove and could not muster the one big run it needed to get back into the game.
Olympic finishes the year with a record of 19-6.
