Input sought for Warren Avenue Playfield upgrades

The park was identified as a high priority for updating in a six-year capital facilities plan.

BREMERTON — The city of Bremerton is seeking community input on planned renovations and updates to the Warren Avenue Playfield.

The park, acquired by the city in the 1920s, was identified as a high priority for updating in a six-year capital facilities plan. It is a 1.9-acre park at the intersection of 11th Street and Warren Avenue and includes swings, a picnic table, restrooms, and a lighted sports field used for Pee-Wee baseball and football.

In the planning stages for this renovation project, the city is working on a master plan and wants to take into account recommendations from the community the park serves.

Some of the recommended changes, based on the 2014 Parks, Recreation & Open Space Plan and several meetings with stakeholders and the Parks & Recreation Commission, include increasing accessibility by adding a ramp to the playground, updating the restroom to be accessible, replacing the chain-link fence, updating the lighting for the field to LED, adding pathways connecting the playfield’s features, relocating the playground and adding more seating.

In the coming months, the city plans to meet with stakeholders, hold public meetings and presentations and accept feedback online.
