POULSBO — Expect to spot a number of folks gazing skyward if you make a stop in downtown Poulsbo on Saturday, May 5, as the Port of Poulsbo welcomes the Washington Seaplane Pilots Association for the Poulsbo Splash Weekend.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, pilots from all over the state are invited to make the trip to the Viking City and touch down on the waters of Liberty Bay. Fun fact: The Port of Poulsbo is an FAA-approved Sea Plane Base, complete with a 12,000 foot runway on the water. The port will reconfigure some floats on the docks in order to make room for the aircraft.
Pilots who splash down at the port will take home gift bags as well. In the future the Port of Poulsbo hopes to expand seaplane moorage capacity, possibly even opening up opportunities for regular service to nearby destinations in Canada and the San Juan Islands. Visitors to Waterfront Park will have the best view of the planes as they land and take off. Here’s hoping the flyboys all remember to keep their wheels up.
