Kids and family members: learn about safety at Bike Rodeo

The event will take place on Saturday, May 19 at Walmart’s parking lot.

PORT ORCHARD — Kids and families who are into bicycling should take notice: there will be a Safety Fair and Bike Rodeo from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, in the parking lot of Walmart in Port Orchard.

The Kiwanis Club of Port Orchard and South Kitsap Fire and Rescue are partnering to sponsor this safety event.

Participants can bring their bicycles to the activity for a free checkup. If they don’t have a helmet, they can get fitted for a new one, organizers said.

Firefighters also will give a live fire demonstration at 12:30 p.m. They will show the difference of a house on fire with a sprinkler system, and house without one.

Every child who participates in the event will receive a free Frosty from Wendy’s. Fathoms O’ Fun Royalty Court will be on hand, as will local government members and police officers from Port Orchard and deputies from Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
