GORST — Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a minor collision about 1 a.m. May 7 in Gorst.

No, they weren’t called to the scene due to the need for police presence: One KCSO officer’s car rear-ended the other’s.

According to the Washington State Patrol accident report, written by Trooper N. Nawrocki, “both fully marked Kitsap County Sheriff’s vehicles” were headed southbound on State Route 3 in pursuit of a third, uninvolved vehicle. When the first SUV, driven by Stephen Russel, slowed for traffic, the second, driven by Victor Olvera, was unable to stop in time and struck Russel’s vehicle “in the rear.”

Neither party reported injuries, but Russel’s vehicle had to be towed away by Bethel Towing. Olvera’s sustained reportable damage but was driven from the scene.

The incident is under investigation, with charges pending the result. There was no further mention of the mystery third vehicle.
