PORT ORCHARD — In a maritime nod to summer, the tall ship “Lady Washington” sailed majestically into the Port Orchard Marina May 16 for its summer visit.

It will depart on Sunday, May 24.

The ship was built in 1989 by Grays Harbor Historical Seaport in Aberdeen and is a full-scale replica of the original “Lady Washington,” the first American vessel to make landfall on the West Coast of North America. The ship has been featured in the motion picture “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Star Trek: Generations” and ABC’s “Once Upon A Time.”

The majestic vessel appeared in Port Orchard last year to kick off the Fathoms O’ Fun season. Vessel tours are conducted daily except Mondays for a $5 suggested donation.

Adventure Sails will offer two-hour sailing experiences during the ship’s berth in Port Orchard. Sailings will take place May 19, from 2-4 p.m., and May 20, from 2-4 p.m. ($42-$49).

Sailing guests will embark on a two-hour tall ship sailing experience as it was done for hundreds of years. A ticket is required for all passengers, including babies. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments are not provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own non-glass containers.

On May 24, passage sailing from Port Orchard to Everett will be conducted in an estimated seven hours ($99). The passage sailing is a one-way extended tall ship experience, similar to that by 18th-century travelers.

The extended trip is for experienced travelers only who are accustomed to limited facilities, organizers said. Travelers will be assigned a watch and may be asked to assist with ship operations. A ticket is required for all passengers.

Meals and bunks (no bedding) are included. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. 

“Lady Washington” will return to Port Orchard Aug. 17-27 for tours and sailings.
