UPDATE | Alcohol “does appear to be” a factor in pedestrian vs. vehicle fatality

BREMERTON — One person is dead following a car vs. pedestrian incident early Thursday morning, authorities said.

At 1:45 a.m. Thursday, Bremerton police were dispatched to investigate a collision on National Ave. between Burwell Street and First Street. Bremerton patrol officers, the traffic division and Washington State Patrol processed the scene and found a fatal car vs. pedestrian incident, said Lt. Aaron Elton. The victim is a 26-year-old male.

The driver, also a 26-year-old male, is in custody for vehicular homicide, Elton said. The vehicle is in the custody of the Bremerton Police Department pending a search warrant. Elton also noted that “alcohol does appear to be a factor in this case” and that the investigation is still ongoing.
