SILVERDALE — The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a juvenile in connection with a number of fires set within close proximity to one another just west of town.
Detectives took a 17-year-old male into custody at about 2 p.m. Wednesday at his Central Kitsap home. He was booked on two counts of second-degree arson.
The sheriff’s office had been investigating a series of fires — two in the fall of 2017, and an additional five during a two-week period between July 18 and Aug. 2.
The fires were generally set in an area of Old Frontier Road between NW Gumtree Lane and NW Hosman Circle. Deputy fire marshal Ken Rice previously noted the incidents included an October 29 fire that consumed a large metal utility building, another one November 17 at a mobile home with an addition built onto it, and another fire set to a 4-door Jaguar sedan on July 18. Three brush fires had also been set between July 18 and Aug. 2.
