Sidney Art Gallery seeking consignment artists

Organization’s mission is to ‘preserve history, promoting art.’

PORT ORCHARD — The Sidney Art Gallery believes its mission of “preserving history, promoting art” helps keep the South Kitsap community surrounded with beautiful art, said Elissa Whittleton of the gallery.

“We encourage our members to always be on the lookout and let prospective artists know what a wonderful opportunity this is to get their art into the community,” Whittleton, also an artist, said.

She said the Sidney Art Gallery has an affordable commission schedule compared to other area art venues and enlists a relatively simple screening process for prospective participating artists at the gallery.

Once participating consignment artists have been screened into the art gallery, Whittleton said, they have two options for payouts:

— To volunteer one day a month, with a sales commission to the gallery of 25 percent and a 75 percent payout to the artist, or:

— A sales commission to the gallery of 33 percent and a 67 percent payout to the artist, with no volunteer time required.

Participating artists must maintain a membership to the Sidney Museum and Art Gallery, which costs $25 for an individual and $35 for a family, and must sign a consignment contract.
