Tilt a glass of suds for the elderly this October during Microbrews for Martha & Mary.
Martha & Mary provides care for children, seniors and families through senior housing, rehabilitation, home care, care mangement and long-term care as well as childcare, early learning and school-age programs.
Celebrating its second year, the event will see participants purchasing a $15 “Here We Drink” passport and web app, which will lead them to various breweries around the region. Once at a participating brewery, 50 cents from each microbrew purchase will go to Martha & Mary. The web app will also help breweries record and track drink purchases. Commemorative drinking glasses will be up for grabs as well.
Last year, Martha & Mary gathered some $6,000 from the event. This year, organizers are hoping to nab $10,000, which will go toward “beyond bingo” style enrichment endeavors for seniors. Atop the list of purchases is a new virtual reality system designed specifically for seniors called MyndVR. After Martha & Mary implements the VR system in the fall, it will be the first senior care facility in the state to offer the technology-based programming that seeks to enhance residents’ quality of life.
Eight Lutheran congregations around the region will assist the fundraiser through sponsorship this year, which organizers say is appropriate given that Martin Luther’s wife, Katharina Von Bora was a renowned brewer.

- Slippery Pig Brewery;
- Valhöll Brewing;
- Western Red Brewing; and
- World of Beer
