SILVERDALE — The Eagles sent out their eight seniors with a victory in their final home meet over North Mason and Olympic.

The team honored Lucas Becker, Sam Cook, Tanyr Gagnon, Rhys Hamblet, Katherine Callender, Madison Godsey, Madita Schoenberger and Kate Schweitzer, and then went out and delivered a win in the final race of the 2018 season on Klahowya’s campus.

But it was the youngsters on the team that powered the Eagles to victory.

In the boys race, sophomores Jaeden Ellis, Alex Oathout and Wyatt Vertefeuille took second, third and fourth place respectively, while freshman Kelton Gagnon took fifth and sophomore Evan Hagle came in sixth. North Mason’s Noah Hasselblad took the top spot.

Sophomores Rachel Newhard and Alexa Watson went 1-2 in the girls race, followed by fourth and fifth place finishes by Hanna Nelson and Olivia Wildes. Junior Hannah Meehan finished in sixth to round out the scorers for Klahowya.

Olympic’s top runners in the boys race were Christopher Mourich, who finished eighth, and Wyatt Pisz, who took home tenth. Olivia McFall was the top girls runner for the Trojans with a ninth place finish.

Central Kitsap girls take top spot at North Thurston Ramrock 5K.

The Cougars dominated the field at St. Martins, taking six of the top 12 spots en route to scoring 33 points and a win.

Maya Nichols won the race with a time of 20:18.60 and younger sister Taylor Nichols finished third in 21:02.60. Rissa Eilmes, Kara Shepard, and Madeline Shetler rounded out the top five.

The boys took fourth with 98 points powered by a seventh place finish from Louis Gannon. He was followed by Daniel Lizon, Jamal Chandler, Seth Tower and Samuel Christensen.

North Kitsap, Kingston battle Metro League foes

The Vikings and the Bucs participated in a crossover meet, along with Sequim, with Eastside Catholic, Garfield, Bainbridge and Lakeside (Seattle) from the Metro League on Wednesday.

Kingston’s Stefans Lusis was the top overall boys winners with a time of 16:36.60, just short of his season-best time, beating out Sequim’s Murray Bingham by nearly 13 seconds. The Bucs finished tied for fourth as a team, while North Kitsap came in sixth.

On the girls side, North Kitsap’s Madison Zosa was the top local girls runner, taking sixth with a time of 20:03.40. The vikings finished fifth overall.

Bremerton boys take second at quad meet in Port Angeles

Brothers Spencer and Erik Anderson were two of the top runners for the Knights, along with Enrique Brambia, as they finished second just behind Port Angeles and ahead of Port Townsend and Forks.
