Registration closing for summer lacrosse leagues

Registration ends Saturday for boys’, girls’ and adult co-ed summer lacrosse leagues hosted by North Kitsap Lacrosse. Register for all lacrosse leagues at the Poulsbo Parks and Recreation office at 19540 Front St. League fees are $50 per player. All players must provide their own equipment. For more information, call Brian O’Connor at (360) 697-7320. All games will be at the NK Stadium in Poulsbo.

High school girls’ games are Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. for girls entering grades nine through 12, and 5:30-6:30 p.m. for girls entering grades three through eight. Both leagues will play from June 24-August 12.

The boys’ youth league, for boys entering grades three through eight, will play Fridays from 6-7:30 p.m. from June 26 to Aug. 14. The boys’ high school league, for boys entering grades nine through 12, will play 8-9:30 p.m. June 24-August 12.

The first-ever co-ed adult summer lacrosse league in North Kitsap will play every Friday from 7:30-9 p.m. June 26-August 14. The league is open to all post-high school players regardless of residency. Teams will have equal numbers of men and women and women’s lacrosse rules will apply. The emphasis will be on fun.

Blazina, Parker win Shandera Award

Lars Blazina and Cristine Parker are the 2009 recipients of the Joe Shandera Award, given each year to the top senior athletes who show scholarship, community and overcoming adversity.

Chisholm, Weible honored as coaches

North Kitsap High School honored boys basketball coach Tony Chisholm as the school’s coach of the year last week. Chisholm led the Vikings to the state playoffs earlier this year and will be further recognized at the Kitsap County Bremerton Athletic Roundtable banquet on Saturday.

Viking baseball coach Jeff Weible was named coach of the year by the Olympic League for his efforts in bringing the NKHS team to the state playoffs last month.

Lacrosse camp on the way

The deadline for summer lacrosse camps for boys and girls entering grades three through 12 is Saturday. Camps cover all lacrosse skills, rules of the game and technique. Camps are open to anyone, regardless of residency. Both camps will run June 22-26. Future third through eighth graders play from 9 a.m. to noon and future ninth through 12th graders play from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the North Kitsap Stadium in Poulsbo. Camp fee is $60. Loaner equipment is available with a refundable deposit of $30 for a stick and $50 for goggles. Register now for fall soccer

The North Kitsap Soccer Club is taking registrations through June 30 for fall recreational youth soccer. Register online at www.northkitsapsoccer.org. Fee is $90 for U6-U7, $120 for U8-U10 and $125 for U11-U19.

Make a splash at swim camp

Summer Splash Swim Camp at the North Kitsap pool begins Monday, with sessions running through Aug. 28. Call (360) 598-1066 or (360) 598-1067 to register. Camp will feature crafts, art projects, outdoor games, swim lessons and open swim time.

KHS hosts track and field camp

The Kingston High School track and field team will sponsor a camp July 20-23 for children entering grades three through eight. Cost is $70. The camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Campers will receive training regarding running and different events from KHS track coaches and top placing athletes along with a t-shirt and snacks. The camp will end with a track meet competition on the final day. Registration forms will soon be available on the KHS athletics track and field Web page.
