PORT ORCHARD — South Kitsap School District Superintendent Karst Brandsma will host a presentation and question-and-answer session at Dragonfly Cinema this evening, Oct. 18, for district residents seeking information about the bond and capital levy propositions on the general election ballot.
The session will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the theater, 822 Bay St. in Port Orchard.
Brandsma will give a presentation and share specifics about the two measures registered voters will be asked to consider.
The school district is asking district voters to approve a bond measure to construct a 240,000-square-foot comprehensive high school on district-owned property adjacent to Old Clifton Road in South Kitsap.
The proposed high school, which would be the district’s second, would be built with funding provided by Proposition 1, a $184.7 million bond measure. The monies would be collected over 25 years from property taxes set at a projected rate of $1.07 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The school district also is asking voters to approve Proposition 2, a capital levy addressing facilities renovation needs, as well as those for safety and security, and technology upgrades. That measure is valued at $21.7 million and would be collected over a four-year period at a projected rate of $0.67 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
