The following summaries were selected from Port Orchard Police Department reports filed by officers during the past week. The summaries were edited for brevity and clarity, and don’t represent all of the procedures enlisted by officers during the described incidents.

Nov. 8

An officer was dispatched at 10:50 a.m. to a trespass in progress at a mall at the 1700 block of Southeast Mile Hill Drive. The mall manager called 911 and said a male was in the lower mall with a hammer in his hand. The man had been previously contacted by police and was trespassed from the mall. One of the officers recalled speaking to another officer about a subject matching the man’s description.

The officer was called to confirm that she spoke to the man — who was advised that he was not to return to the mall location or he would be trespassing and subject to arrest. The officer completed a report that listed him as the suspect on a third-degree theft and malicious mischief for a criminal trespass warning. The report was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

Nov. 4

At 3:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 980 block of Retsil Road about a dead deer. Upon arriving at the location, the officer contacted the reporting person and asked him what took place. The man said he was walking through the park and found a gut pile with a bloody tarp and a black trash bag near the trail on the south side of the parking lot.

Walking to the location, the officer observed a blue tarp with hair and blood on it — along with a black trash bag that had inside a carcass of a deer. Next to the bag was an intestine pile. The officer took photos and logged it into evidence. The police department followed up with the state Fish and Wildlife to see if they needed to see the carcass. After they declined, a work order was requested for Port Orchard Public Works to remove the carcass.

Nov. 6

At 4:24 p.m., Port Orchard units were dispatched to a department store at the 1900 block of Sedgwick Road for a theft that was not in progress. The loss prevention officer there said that on Oct. 22, a male they were familiar with came into the store with an unknown Native American man and selected $523 in assorted clothing and two duffle bags.

Loss prevention was made aware of the incident on Oct. 25 and started reviewing surveillance video. Staffers said they saw the men select merchandise and conceal items in the duffel bags. They passed all open registers and made no attempt to pay before exiting. Both men were seen sprinting out the exit door and continued to a white van without license plates. Store security people told the officers that the Organized Retail Theft team is actively working all cases against the man and only required an informational report from them. One of the suspects had previously been trespassed from the chain’s Tacoma store May 9.
