Agate Pass Bridge will be completely shut down to traffic for construction work each night — Sunday through Thursday (and into Friday morning) — between Dec. 2 to Dec. 21 for construction work, the Washington State Department of Transportation has announced.
The bridge connecting Bainbridge Island to the Kitsap Peninsula will also be subject to closures of a single lane on the two-lane span during December.
State officials said work crews plan to open the bridge for short time-frames to allow drivers to cross.
The schedule is:
Sunday through Thursday (into Friday morning), Dec. 2-21:
• 8 to 10 p.m. – one-way alternating traffic;
• 10 to 11:59 p.m. – bridge closed to traffic;
• 11:59 p.m. to 12:15 a.m. – one-way alternating traffic;
• 12:15 to 3 a.m. – bridge closed bridge to traffic;
• 3 to 3:15 a.m. – one-way alternating traffic;
• 3:15 to 4 a.m. – bridge closed to traffic; and
• 4 to 5:30 a.m. – one-way alternating traffic.
Traffic delays are expected during the closure periods and one-lane shutdowns.
State officials advise drivers to avoid all Seattle to Bainbridge Island sailings after 8:15 p.m. Monday through Thursday (8:10 p.m. Sunday), Dec. 2-21, and to avoid all Bainbridge Island to Seattle sailings after 9:55 p.m. Monday through Thursday (9:45 p.m. Sunday).
Drivers should also consider using the Seattle-Bremerton or Edmonds-Kingston routes during the closures to avoid what officials say will be “significant delays” caused by the closures.
