PORT ORCHARD — Outstanding high-school music students from across Washington state, including six choir students from South Kitsap High School, have received top honors by being selected to participate in one of the 2019 Washington Music Educators Association All-State performing groups.
Graci Crider, Liam Posadas and Abe Thorley, choir students from South Kitsap, will join the All-State Symphonic Choir. Andrew Knickerbocker, Portia Kostick and Kaitlyn Wright will join the All-Northwest Treble Choir.
The students will join other exceptional young performers in Portland, Ore., for the event over the weekend of Feb. 15-17. More than 1,800 students applied to participate in the prestigious event. From those applicants, the finest high school musicians will rehearse and perform in concert under the direction of world-renowned conductors.
Well-known Washingtonians who have participated in past years’ WMEA All-State groups include Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and columnist David Horsey, 2008 National Teacher of the Year Andrea Peterson and jazz saxophonist Kenny G.
