Jacqueline (Jackie) Aleene Monsaas, age 97, passed away in Silverdale WA on November 25, 2018.
Jackie was born in Cushing Oklahoma on October 19, 1921 to Leverett (Brownie) and Mina Ackart. She spent her growing up years between Oklahoma and San Pedro CA before graduating from San Pedro High School in 1941. While living in California she met her future husband Lorentz as he would drive from Bainbridge Island to San Pedro to visit her neighbors. They married on November 6, 1946 in Seattle and spent their married years on Bainbridge Island where Lorentz was born and raised.
Jackie was a fixture for MANY years at the only department store in Winslow, first named Bainbridge Department Store, then Childers. Many people have fond memories of Jackie ironing their new shirt purchase, helping outfit them for prom, assisting to purchase a wedding gift and wrapping their purchases. She loved her job at the department store and retired in her late 60’s when the store closed for good.
She loved to visit and talk! She spent many mornings before work with her coffee clatch at the Martinique. Another of her favorite things to do was to get in Marty’s orange Duster and do burnouts. She would wave to the crowd with a big smile on her face as the smoke was billowing all around the car.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Lorentz in 1981 and her eldest son Marty in 2015. She is survived by three children Lorentz of Port Townsend, David (Jane) of Bainbridge Island and Susie (Ed) Sund of Tahuya, three grandchildren Melissa of Kasilof AK, Andrew and Shelby of Bainbridge Island and four great grandchildren.
Jackie didn’t want us to mourn her passing but wanted a party to celebrate her life with family and friends. It will be held Saturday June 1, 1-5pm at the Poulsbo Sons of Norway. We are inviting all those who knew Jackie and the kids to come and celebrate her long and healthy life with us.
