SKSD’s free summer lunch program starts June 24

Sack lunches provided on Wednesdays at the waterfront gazebo

PORT ORCHARD — School-age children in South Kitsap once again will have access to a free lunch this summer, courtesy of the South Kitsap School District.

The free program, as it has in past years, will be served at East Port Orchard Elementary from Monday through Friday, June 24 to Aug. 16. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will not take place on July 4-5, however.

Each Wednesday, the district reported in a news release, a sack lunch will also be provided to children at the downtown waterfront gazebo, adjacent to the Port Orchard Library, from noon to 12:15 p.m. on July 10, 17, 24, 31 and Aug. 7 and 14.

The free lunch program has been made possible due to the district’s participation in the federally funded Summer Food Program that offers free lunches to children 18 and younger.
