Proud parents, family members and friends packed Bremerton High School Memorial Stadium Friday night to witness the class of 2019 accept their high school diplomas marking the students’ departure into adulthood.
248 graduates walked onto the stage in the middle of the football field to be recognized with a hard-earned diploma. 235 total scholarships were received, 90 of them having more than one scholarship.
Joash Smith was named 2019’s valedictorian. Smith will attend the University of Washington to study mechanical engineering. The salutatorians were Haley Michaelson, Miaoxing Pan and Mackenzie Simmons. Michaelson will also attend the University of Washington to study athletic training and orthopedic surgery technology, Pan will attend pacific lutheran university to study nurse anesthetics, and Simmons will attend Washington State University to study clinical psychology.
“I’m so proud of your demonstrated hard work, grit and tenacity to get to this point,” Bremerton School District Superintendent Aaron Leavell said before diplomas were given out. “I wish you a fun, exciting and prosperous journey in life beyond Bremerton High School.”
Leavell riled up the graduates one more time by asking “What time is it?” The students responded by yelling “Knight time” at the top of their lungs.
