PORT ORCHARD — The current director of transportation services for the Los Angeles Unified School District is headed to South Kitsap School District.
Ryan Solchenberger, who leads a large division with 1,400 employees and a fleet of 1,300 school buses, was named South Kitsap’s new director of transportation services.
Solchenberger succeeds Jay Rosapepe, who is retiring from the school district. Karst Brandsma, South Kitsap’s superintendent, announced his appointment on June 11.
“We are fortunate to be able to add Mr. Solchenberger to our administrative team,” Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Farmer said in a news release.
“His experience in large division leadership will be a remarkable resource for our district, staff, students and families.”
Prior to his time at Los Angeles Unified, Solchenberger was general manager at Transdev, N.A., a commuter bus service in Washington, D.C. He also served as director of student transportation for the Office of the State Superintendent of Education in Washington, D.C., and deputy chief operating officer at Chicago Public Schools in Chicago.
Solchenberger earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
