Port Orchard starts spraying to control vegetation, weeds

Citywide effort to finish Tuesday afternoon

PORT ORCHARD — Beginning Monday, the City of Port Orchard will start citywide spraying for vegetation control.

Products that will be applied to control vegetation and weeds include Crossbow, Element4 and Arsenal Habitat. None of these products contain glyphosate, according to city officials.

Glyphosate has been a topic of contention between some Kitsap County residents and organizations over broadcast spraying the controversial herbicide to manage weeds. The county commissioners voted in May to discontinue using glyphosate on county-owned-and-maintained property and rights of way, except for targeted herbicide application to eradicate noxious weeds.

The Port Orchard spraying work is expected to be completed by Tuesday afternoon, the city’s Public Works organization said in a news release.
