New KCSO staff members sworn in

New members were sworn in by Sheriff Simpson at Aug. 12 Kitsap County commissioners meeting

The latest members of the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office team were recently sworn in at the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday.

Sheriff Gary Simpson administered the oath with agency personnel and family members present. Those sworn in were support services specialists Brittany Baker and Heather Vallejo, corrections officer Alexis Reeves, deputy sheriff Kevin Denney and corrections officer Juan Guerrero.

Baker is from Naples, Italy and is assigned to the sheriff’s records unit. She was previously employed for three years as a telecommunicator with Kitsap 911, 12 years with Central Kitsap School District as an office manager and three years with a Silverdale medical practice.

Vallejo, a native of Kennewick, joined the sheriff’s office July 8 as a support services specialist working in the records dissemination unit. She was previously employed as an ultrasound echocardiographer for nine years with Pacific Cardiovascular in Tacoma and three years with Harrison Medical Center in Silverdale as a patient access representative.

Reeves is from New Jersey and moved west to join the Kitsap County Sheriff’s corrections division July 15. She served as a corrections officer with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office for 15 months. Reeves is a master-at-arms second class in the U.S. Navy Reserve and has been called to active duty three times in the past four years.

Denney has returned to KCSO following an 11-year career as a sheriff’s deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Port Hadlock. Prior to that, he underwent his initial law enforcement training and took on patrol duties for three years as a Kitsap County reserve deputy sheriff. Denney is also a military veteran, serving on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1998 to 2007 as a nuclear-trained electrician’s mate first class and qualified submariner.

Guerrero spent several years as an assistant project manager for a construction company in Jacksonville, Florida, and as a Seattle-based construction company project engineer. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with the rank of sergeant and served eight years fulfilling duties as an infantryman, logistics specialist, intelligence analyst, marksmanship instructor and training chief.
