Cedar Cove quilt will be auctioned off to benefit Sidney museum, gallery

The Sidney Museum & Arts Association (SMAA), in connection with next month’s planned Cedar Cove Days festival, is raffling off a “Cedar Cove Quilt” inspired by Port Orchard author Debbie Macomber’s popular book series.

The Sidney Gallery is the inspiration for “Harbor Street Art Gallery,” mentioned in several of the New York Times-bestselling Cedar Cove book series where two key characters, Mary Ellen Sherman, Harbor Street Art Gallery manager and Jon Bowman, local northwest artist, meet and form a life-long relationship.

The “Cedar Cove Quilt” was designed by Pam Heinrich with the design approval of Macomber and Harlequin Enterprises, LTD.

The quilt depicts the houses on the covers of the Cedar Cove Book Series, and also incorporates the Olympic Mountains and Sinclair Inlet, scenic vistas seen from downtown Port Orchard, aka “Cedar Cove.”

The quilt was pieced and quilted by Sinclair Quilters, a group of 16 northwest women who have been quilting together in Port Orchard for more than 23 years.

SMAA Executive Director Jud Turner, Debra Danielson, Pam Heinrich, Virginia Collins, and Sinclair Quilters met at the Sidney Gallery on July 13 for a special presentation to Macomber of Raffle Ticket No. 1, as Macomber autographed the completed quilt, making it a true one-of-kind collector’s item.

The Sidney Gallery’s August Gallery Show will feature northwest local artists to include photography, water color, oils, ceramics and fiber art.

Raffle manager Virginia Collins, is selling the tickets for $5 each.

Tickets are available at the Sidney Art Gallery, which is housed in the town’s original Masonic Hall, and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Tickets are available through Aug. 30, and Macomber will draw the winning ticket at the Cedar Cove Days closing ceremonies at Port Orchard’s Waterfront Park on Aug. 30.

The SMAA, a nonprofit organization founded in 1970, is dedicated to preserving local history and fostering the fine arts.

The association established and maintains the Sidney Art Gallery, the Sidney Museum, and the Log Cabin Museum.

Proceeds from the quilt raffle go to support the association’s mission.
