The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, along with state and federal law enforcement agencies, helped resolve a situation at a Silverdale residence Friday after discovering hazardous materials and chemicals along with what appeared to be explosives.
Initially, authorities were called to Peony Place to assist a person in crisis after firing off a weapon, according to a KCSO Facebook post. The investigation revealed explosives at the residence in the 10900 block of Peony Pl NW in Silverdale.
Residents of the neighborhood near Ridgetop Middle School were told to evacuate the area for several hours before being given permission to re-enter from authorities. Central Kitsap School District representatives were on scene coordinating efforts to ensure safe school releases and bus routes.
Around 5:30 p.m., investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence and shortly after, located hazardous materials and chemicals which were removed and safely disposed of, according to KCSO.
“Our priority was for the safety of our community and we thank you for your patience and support,” a Facebook post from KCSO read.
At 6:10 p.m., an update was sent out by KCSO giving the “all clear” that the neighborhood had been declared safe for residents to return.
“EOD located ‘hazardous materials’ and chemicals that they have removed and will dispose of safely,” the update read.
