BREMERTON — A Bremerton Police officer was transported to Harrison Medical Center after his patrol car was struck by another car that rolled through a red light at the intersection of Sixth Street and Montgomery Avenue May 11.

The officer, 47, was sitting in his marked BPD 2010 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car while stopped at a red light at the intersection. The car was facing east on Sixth Street around 7 a.m., according to a Washington State Patrol report.

According to witnesses, the traffic light for the officer turned green. The officer moved forward and was struck by a 2006 Honda Civic that blew through a red light while northbound on Montgomery Avenue.

The driver of the Honda was a 26-year-old man from Salem, Oregon. He was not injured. The man was cited for failure to yield right of way. The Honda had reportable damage and was driven from the scene.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the crash.
