Fire station open house events in Oct.
The public is always welcome to visit our stations, but every October, we make a special effort to invite you in. The Station 89 (Hansville) Open House is Saturday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. until noon. Station 84 (Suquamish) will open its doors that afternoon from 1 until 3 p.m. Station 85 (Indianola/Jefferson Beach/South Kingston) will be open on Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. The Station 81 (Headquarters) Open House is planned for Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. until noon. We’ll have delicious refreshments and lots of good information waiting for you. Plus, there are firefighters to meet and fire engines to see. Please stop by; we’d love to see you!
Escape plans
The theme of this year’s National Fire Prevention Week (always observed on the week that includes the Oct. 8 anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire) centers on the importance of fire escape planning. Make sure you’ve got at least two different ways out of every room and one meeting place outside. Practice the plan and share it with overnight guests. You can find more info on this and other important fire prevention topics at www.firepreventionweek.org This year’s theme pairs perfectly with the annual fire escape planning contest that’s offered through area schools and preschools. Watch your child’s backpack for the contest info, make it a fun family activity, better protect your loved ones from fire and help your child’s class win an ice cream sundae party!
CPR/AED Class
We’re pleased to bring CPR and AED training to Hansville Community Center 6-9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14. There is no charge for the class, but the cost of course completion cards is $25 per student. Reservations, which can be made by calling 360-297-3619 during regular business hours, are required.
Check Your Pulse
Our twice-annual newsletter will arrive in mailboxes mid-October. In it is the complete list of our planned open houses, detailed information about emergency medical services, our handy emergency medical information card, and more.
EMS Levy
NKF&R’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Levy expires at the end of 2019 and, on the November general election ballot, voters will decide if the levy should be renewed for another six years. If you have any questions about the ballot measure, please contact Fire Chief Dan Smith via email to smith@nkfr.org or via phone at 360-297-3619.
Kingston Prepares
Join us and several other community groups to talk about disaster preparedness on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Village Green Community Center. See you there!
