PORT ORCHARD — Motorists will need to raise their lead foot off the accelerator a bit on certain Port Orchard streets, thanks to advice from the city’s transportation engineering consultant and agreement by the City Council.

On Sept. 24, the City Council adopted recommendations to lower speed limits on certain roads made by the consultant, who evaluated speed limits on Old Clifton Road, Sidney Road Southwest on Southwest Sedgwick Road and Glenwood Road Southwest. City officials commissioned a speed study after McCormick Village Park was completed, and as a result of annexations, growth and ongoing development that have changed traffic patterns in Port Orchard.

The following recommendations were made by the consultant and adopted by the City Council:

• Reduce the speed limit on Southwest Old Clifton Road between Anderson Hill Road and the west city boundary from 45 to 35 miles per hour. This change includes the portion of Southwest Old Clifton Road, which passes by McCormick Village Park.
• Reduce the speed limit on Sidney Road Southwest from 35 to 30 miles per hour from Pottery Avenue to the south city boundary. Additional speed restrictions apply in the school zone near Sidney Glen Elementary.
• Reduce the speed limit from 40 to 35 miles per hour on Southwest Sedgwick Road between Glenwood Road Southwest and Sidney Road Southwest.
• Reduce the speed limit from 40 to 35 miles per hour on Glenwood Road Southwest between Southwest Sedgwick Road and the west city boundary.

These speed limit changes will take effect when the new signage is posted, city officials said.
