A sailor aboard the USS Pennsylvania, a ballistic missile submarine stationed at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, was recently charged with dealing and using cocaine in or near Seattle around December 2017, according to a charging sheet provided by NBK.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Riley W. Hoffman was also charged with possession of methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). The submarine warfare officer enlisted in the Navy in 2001 and was commissioned in 2015, according to Navy documents. Hoffman became a member of the blue crew on the USS Pennsylvania in 2017.

“The Navy and the Submarine Force hold Sailors to the highest possible standards of conduct,” said Lt. Mack Jamieson, Submarine Group 9 public affairs officer. “When Sailors fail to meet those standards, they are held accountable. All accused personnel are presumed innocent until proven guilty.”

Another submarine warfare officer aboard the USS Michigan, Lieutenant James W. Hendren, was also recently charged in September for dealing cocaine and MDMA in Seattle, according to charging sheets provided by NBK.
