PORT ORCHARD — Fire units from South Kitsap Fire and Rescue’s Tremont station were able to douse an electrical fire within the walls of a home at the 4200 block of Weyers Lane Southwest in Port Orchard on Sunday, Oct. 27.

The call came into Kitsap 911 and was dispatched to SKFR at 2:48 p.m. by a resident in the home, who evacuated the two-story structure.

Jon Gudmundsen, SKFR battalion chief, said Monday that the fire began to spread beyond the wall throughout the home. He said additional crews arrived shortly after the first unit arrived to extinguish the fire and search the home to confirm there were no other occupants.

In all, 17 fire units and 28 crew members worked over a 90-minute period to extinguish the blaze and douse small, hidden fires remaining within the walls.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. The patient was listed as being in stable condition.

“Unfortunately, the home’s interior was extensively damaged from the fire,” Gudmundsen said. “SKFR’s chaplain was requested to assist the occupants with temporary housing, clothing and any other needs they may have.”

Gudmundsen said the Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire to determine the cause.
