PORT ORCHARD — The Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays will impact most Kitsap County waste facility, pick up and recycling service and hours over the next few weeks.
Only the Poulsbo and Olalla recycling and garbage facilities won’t be affected by the holidays. Their regular Friday-Monday schedule will not be impacted by the holidays.
Olympic View transfer station, Silverdale and Hansville recycling and garbage facilities, Bainbridge Island transfer station and the household hazardous waste collection facility will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Olympic View will close early at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Silverdale will close earlier at 2 p.m. on Dec. 24.
According to Kitsap County’s solid waste division, the holiday weekends are among the busiest times at their waste and recycling facilities. Users should expect longer than normal wait times. The heaviest traffic is typically between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., officials said.
Due to the county’s scrap metal hauler’s holiday schedule, the scrap metal containers at Olympic View transfer station and Silverdale recycling and garbage facility may unexpectedly close their scrap metal containers in the days before or after a holiday. If the containers are closed when users arrive, they are asked not to leave scrap metal on the ground. They should pay for disposal or wait until another day when the containers are open. Another option would be to take it to a private scrap metal recycler instead.
Waste Management will not collect waste on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day (both fall on Wednesday). Collection will shift one day later for the remainder of the holiday week. Bainbridge Disposal will not collect waste from Bainbridge Island customers on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Collection will shift one day later for the remainder of the holiday week.
City of Poulsbo customers will have regular garbage, recycling and yard waste pick-up service over the holidays.
