Excess carbon built up in an exhaust stack aboard the Washington State Ferry M/V Spokane caused a commotion Saturday night.
Shortly before the final sailing from Kingston on the Edmonds-Kingston route, reports of a small fire coming from one of the exhaust stacks prompted the ferry to disembark passengers as a safety precaution, said Diana Rhodes, a public information officer for the ferries.
Rhodes added that the crossing would be delayed as crews awaited a Coast Guard inspection following the incident.
