Former Kitsap County teacher Lynn Heimsoth, 58, was allegedly shot and killed by her husband, Kevin Heimsoth, last week, according to the Bellingham Herald. Heimsoth was the principal at Sunnyland Elementary School in Bellingham.
Kevin Heimsoth, who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was reported to be in critical condition as of Friday, Dec. 28, at Harborview Medical Center. Heimsoth remained under guard by law enforcement, the Herald reported. Whatcom County Sheriff’s deputies also found Heismoth’s therapy dog, Sukha, and a cat at the scene, both dead from gunshot wounds.
“Her death is a profound loss to our Sunnyland community, our school district and to our extended community,” Bellingham Public Schools Superintendent Greg Baker wrote in a statement last week. “Lynn was a passionate, equity-driven instructional leader. She loved kids to the core and always kept students’ needs at the center of her work.”
Prior to joining Sunnyland as the principal in the fall of 2017, Lynn Heimsoth was the principal of Shoultes Elementary in Marysville and also worked for Bremerton, North Kitsap and South Kitsap school districts as an elementary teacher and instructional leader.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lynn’s family and friends during this very hard time, as well as our Sunnyland families and all colleagues affected,” Baker wrote. “We will deeply miss her.”
