On December 14, 2019, Eileen Teresa Montgomery passed away at the age of 81. Eileen was born on 12 October 1938 in Galway, Ireland. She travelled to England to study nursing and then moved to Ontario, Canada followed by British Columbia where she met Monty Montgomery from Seattle who was visiting Vancouver. They were married in 1968. They lived most of their married life in Poulsbo where they raised two children.
Eileen spent her working life as a nurse and midwife. She worked for many years at Harrison Memorial Hospital in the ER, ICU and finally the Preoperative and Postoperative Care Units from where she retired as manager in 2001. Her reputation at Harrison Hospital survives to this day.
She loved her friends and family. She forged loyal and lasting friendships wherever she went. They remained by her side until the end. She loved Poulsbo and devoted time and energy to many local organisations to help her community – Habitat for Humanity, Faith Community of St. Olaf, Fishline, St Vincent de Paul, Kitsap Immigrant Assistance Center, local schools and Kitsap Community Foundation.
She loved the outdoors, from watching the birds from her living room window to backpacking in the mountains with Monty and her friends, and everything in between. She loved to see and know the world; she travelled to visit loved ones and to explore new places – Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.
Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Monty (2015) and son Brian (1998). She is survived by her daughter Teresa, son-in-law Ben, grandchildren Elijah and Harriet, sisters Mary and Elizabeth and brothers Tom, Mark and Michael.
