Practice starts next week for the Kitsap Renegades – high school boys rugby team at View Ridge Elementary in Bremerton.
The Kitsap Rugby Football Union is a nonprofit sports union dedicated to the promotion, encouragement, and growth of Rugby Union Football on the Olympic Peninsula and throughout the Pacific Northwest, according to the group’s website. KRFU currently supports two teams – the senior men’s team and the high school boys team.
For the high school team, practice will start Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The team’s Facebook page advises players to arrive at 3:50 p.m. and to meet at the upper field. The required uniform includes running shoes, cleats, sweat pants over shorts, and a sweatshirt over a shirt. If the weather is bad, players may wear watch-caps (beanies), smooth gloves, and a sports jacket.
Players are advised to bring a towel and a dry change of clothes, along with water. Any registration forms or questions should be directed to the team manager. Once it gets too dark to practice, classroom instruction will occur. Players are expected to bring a notebook and writing tools to take notes.
If you intend to play or have any questions, contact coach Scott Hayman at renegadesrugbymanager@gmail.com.
