New cases of COVID-19 in Kitsap County slowed this week, with just six cases reported between April 12 and April 18.

This mirrors the general trend of Washington state, particularly the areas that were first hard hit — King, Snohomish and Pierce Counties — though some parts of the state are still seeing a rise in coronavirus activity. The state also tests fewer people on the weekends; about 2,000 per day, as opposed to the 4,500 each day during the week.

Health care visits for coronavirus-like illness have continued to taper off as well, with a total of 39 visits reported between April 5 and April 11. Approximately 11 percent of all positive cases have required hospitalization.

As of 2 p.m. Monday, Kitsap Public Health District had no new positive cases to report. The overall total since March 8 is 138 cases. 2,785 people have tested negative.

Of the 139 cases, 38 have been reported in Bremerton, 36 in South Kitsap, 29 in North Kitsap, 25 in Central Kitsap and 11 on Bainbridge Island. One death has been reported.
