A study of affordable housing in Kitsap County and the City of Bremerton was set to be presented to the public earlier this year, but these were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead, a virtual open house and presentation will be scheduled in the next few months.

The county and Bremerton were together to hire EcoNorthwest, a local consulting firm to take a look at affordable housing in Kitsap, with additional focus on Bremerton itself. The study includes information about the state of affordable housing, current and projected future needs and policy recommendations about additional affordabe housing.

“An analysis of the current housing market helps us identify where to preserve and improve existing affordable housing and support development of new housing that is rent-restricted or available for low-income home ownership,” said Commissioner Charlotte Garrido, chair of the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners. “Partnerships are vital to increase and diversify the housing supply for our workforce and families throughout the county.”

Funding for this study came from the county’s block grant program, Kitsap’s Housing and Homelessness Division and the City of Bremerton.
