Take part in Fathoms float, Royalty Court drive-by on Saturday

Celebrate team’s efforts for 2020 with a wave

PORT ORCHARD — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, South Kitsap residents — like people nationwide — had to do without summer community events because of the risk of virus transmission. But in an effort to bring a little joy back to the community, the sponsors of the annual Fathoms O’ Fun Festival will have a float presentation at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 in downtown Port Orchard.

The Fathoms float, complete with this year’s Royalty Court, will be situated for drive-by viewing at the downtown Kitsap Bank parking lot just off Bay Street.

“We want to honor all of the hard work that our volunteers and sponsors have put into the float,” said Helene Jensen of the Fathoms O’ Fun Festival’s royalty committee.

“We especially want to give a huge thank you to Larry Lewis and his crew for the hundreds of hours they put into the float, evening knowing that we were not going to get to travel with it this year.”

Jensen said area residents are encouraged to drive by and check out the float and watch the Royalty Court perform to this year’s theme — Makin’ Waves.
