The Poulsbo Historical Society recently purchased the “old red house” on Front Street and is opening its Heritage Museum (previously in City Hall) in it in April.
The house is called the Nilsen-Sonju House and is 113 years old, according to the historical society. It was built by Einar Nilsen in 1908 while he was building the large Grandview Hotel across the street. The Sonju family purchased the house in 1920 and lived in it until 1935.
As a tribute to the Nilsen and Sonju legacy, the gallery upstairs will showcase artwork that depicts the concept of “home” and what that means to people.
“Whether it’s your community, your physical space where you dwell, your family’s legacy, or a special memory of Poulsbo, we would love to have you add it to our exhibit,” a Facebook post from the historical society reads.
They are hoping to get artwork from children and adults. All submissions will be screened and must also be able to be hung. Submissions should be dropped off at the Maritime Museum at 19010 Front St. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
“We are hoping to receive artwork that we can display before our public grand opening (April 10), but since this gallery will be ongoing, we will happily take it after that as well,” the Facebook post states.
