PORT ORCHARD – A hearing concerning $132,000 in fines levied against That One Place restaurant for allegedly serving customers indoors in violation of COVID-19 restrictions set by Gov. Jay Inslee had been set for today but was delayed to April 19.

At the time of the hearing, the mediation judge called the restaurant owner’s phone number but no one answered so the hearing was continued, state Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) spokeswoman Dina Lorraine said.

That One Place owner Craig Kenady told Kitsap Daily News that he was not given notice that the L&I hearing was set for today.

“This is just another attempt by L&I trying to make an example out of us,” Kenady said.

L&I imposed fines against the Port Orchard restaurant, claiming the business repeatedly failed to follow state health restrictions that banned dine-in service. The restaurant had been fined $12,000 for each day investigators claim the eatery served customers in violation of the governor’s COVID-19 proclamation.

Kenady is appealing all fines. He said his restaurant had been closed on several of the days the state alleged it had been operating in violation of the proclamation.
