A Suquamish tribal elder has died from injuries sustained after being hit by a vehicle in Suquamish April 6.
According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, Nancy McPherson, 74, and her husband Donald, 78, were struck by a vehicle headed southbound on Suquamish Way near The House of Awakened Culture.
Both were airlifted to a trauma center, but despite efforts by airlift nurses and hospital staff McPherson died. Her husband remains in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The suspect driver has been identified as an 81-year-old man driving a 2003 Chrysler minivan. According to KCSO, he is cooperating with them as the investigation continues.
The Suquamish Tribes Human Services Department is working with the McPherson family on arrangements with a memorial service to be determined.
“Nancy was a treasured member of our community and will be dearly missed,” the Suquamish Tribal Council says in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Don and the rest of Nancy’s family.”
