Anchor Down brings a message of unity from Portland, Schoolyard Heroes melt faces for SCRV and a show to save the Winterland in Kitsap’s docket of rock.

Anchor Down is a band of fairly ordinary dudes, coming to town with a extraordinary message of unity. Earlier this summer they helped in putting together “The Birth of The Northwest Gentleman,” a self-funded experiment in DIY, they said, which brought together two indie labels and four Northwest punk rock bands — two from Portland and two from Seattle — for a four-way split, that will come out only on vinyl later this month.
“It kind of symbolizes the obvious cohesiveness of the NW punk scene and encourages everyone to work together,” Anchor Down guitarist Lucas Bennett said.
They’ll bring that ideal to a likewise idealistic setting in Bremerton this Friday.
“It’s not about the rock star image or how much money you have,” guitarist Alex Hudjohn noted. “It’s about connecting with real people on a real level.”
I think they’ll fit in on Callow Avenue.

Following a 10-month, cross-country tour in support of their newest album “Abominations,” headlining the Vera stage at the Capitol Hill Block Party this summer and playing Nirvana tunes with Harvey Danger at a Kurt Cobain tribute show earlier this month in Hoquiam, Schoolyard Heroes are coming back to Kitsap.
The genre-defying, operatic horror-punk amalgamation from Olympia will be jamming in support of Kitsap County roller derby at Port Orchard’s Sk8town.
The derby girls will be raffling off two Daisy Rock guitars while Schoolyard Heroes will be melting faces along with three other local bands.
