PORT ORCHARD — With temperatures reaching into the triple digits the past few days, Fire Chief Jeff Faucett of South Kitsap Fire and Rescue says his department is keeping a close watch for the safety of his district’s residents and their property.
On Monday, Faucett said his department was on watch for any calls signifying that some of the area’s vulnerable population was having trouble dealing with high temperatures resulting in dehydration during 108-degree weather.
“It’s going to be a big day with temperatures in the triple digits,” Faucett said. “This past weekend, although busy, we didn’t end up with anything of significance regarding the weather.”
But he said this next weekend — the Fourth of July weekend — is SKFR’s big concern.
“People don’t realize how dry it is,” Faucett said. “The combination of a dry landscape, hot weather and fireworks is a big concern for us. But we’ll be ready.”
Meanwhile, the fire chief advised residents to stay prepared in order to cope with blazing temperatures.
“Stay inside, turn on your fans and keep hydrated.”
