POULSBO — Puget Sound Energy reported via Twitter that 1,667 customers in Poulsbo were without power as of 2:30 p.m.
Poulsbo City Hall was without power; Poulsbo Fire reported the Stottlemeyer and Deer Run neighborhoods were without power; North Kitsap Fire & Rescue responded to a downed tree into a power line at 1:45 p.m., which caused a power outage at the intersection of State Route 307 and Gunderson. Liberty Bay Books reported power was out in downtown Poulsbo (but the bookstore was still open).
Between 2:30-2:45 p.m., readers on the North Kitsap Herald’s Facebook page reported the following outages: Foss and Bond Road, 5th Avenue NE, Gala Pines, Kenneth L Salon and Spa on 7th Avenue, Noll Road, and 9th Avenue and Hostmark.
Poulsbo Police Chief Al Townsend said via Twitter, “Significant power outage in north part of Silverdale and most of Poulsbo. Remember when traffic signals are out, treat like a four way stop.”
Reporter Kipp Robertson reported power was out at the intersection of State Route 305 and Lincoln, and Lincoln and Caldart. State Route 305 at Bond and Forest Rock Lane still had power. Traffic backed up because traffic lights were out.
Port of Kingston Manager Kori Henry said port office lights were flickering, but the port had not lost power. She said it was extremely windy in Kingston, and measured the wind at 3 p.m. at 28 mph — a strong wind, according to the Beaufort scale.
MacKenzie McDowell, Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman, said there were a number of outages reported around PSE’s service area between 1:45-2 p.m. She said PSE is not sure what is causing the outages, but crews were investigating each outage.
McDowell said PSE received reports of lightning and wind. There was no estimated time of when power would be restored.
PSE advised residents to stay clear of all downed lines; assume those lines are energized and don’t touch them. People can also call 9-1-1 to report downed power lines.
This report will be updated as more information becomes available. If you experience a power outage, report it to PSE (1-888-225-5773 or @PSETalk) and email mstephenson@northkitsapherald.com.
