Olalla Bluegrass Festival coming up Aug. 15

The Olalla Bluegrass & Beyond Festival will celebrate 24 years of music on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the South Kitsap Southern Little League Field, Olalla Valley and Hovgaard roads in Olalla.

OLALLA — The Olalla Bluegrass & Beyond Festival will celebrate 24 years of music on Saturday, Aug. 15 at the South Kitsap Southern Little League Field, Olalla Valley and Hovgaard roads in Olalla.

Ticket prices are $17 for adults, $12 for kids 6-18 and $50 for a family pass. Children under 6 are free.

The festival will kick off at 11 a.m. Gates open at 10 a.m.

The festival will feature some of the top bluegrass bands in the Northwest, including food and crafts vendors, old-time crafts demonstrations, activities for children, guided nature walks and homemade berry pie.

The following acts are scheduled to appear at the festival:

11 a.m. – Woodland, a mix of bluegrass, zydeco and an occasional dash of psychedelia.

12 p.m. – Eclectic Cloggers, “kicking the city of their shoes in Olalla since Year One.”

1:15 .m. – North Country, high energy, rootsy bluegrass is their passion.

2:15 p.m. – Fern Hill, “true bluegrass gentlemen.”

3:45 – Bryan Bowers, legendary autoharpist and storyteller in an encore appearance.

5 p.m. – Blackberry Bushes, Indy-Americana and bluegrass.

6 p.m. – Hot Damn Scandal, tipsy American Gypsy Blues.

7:15 p.m. – Surf Monkeys, jazz-tinged blues with an occasional splash of surf vibe.

This year, the festival will welcome Food Backpacks 4Kids, a non-profit organization that feeds hungry school children in Kitsap County and the Key Peninsula. Fans who bring two cans of food will get a $2 discount off admission to the festival. Parking is $3 per car, collected by the Little League. Camping is $10 each night; there are no hookups. Dogs are not allowed at the site.

Also new will be an auction of handcrafted items, including a full-size quilt, a guitar, wooden bowels, photographs, home-cooked dinner for four, massage and a metal sculpture created by Olalla sculptor Gary Jackson.

The Fathoms O’ Fun royalty will help serve pie at the festival and also will lead the kids’ parade.

In addition to pie, food choices at the festival range from barbecue to Asian food, cinnamon rolls, ice cream and other treats.
